Regina Espanol-Suner

I am a PhD level liver and stem cell biologist, currently doing my 4th year of post-doc at University of California San Francisco. I have studied liver regeneration for the last nine years, so I have great knowledge in modeling liver disease in mice but also through in vitro differentiation of embryonic stem cells. Since college, I have explored and acquired experience in different fields: Right after graduation, I worked as a project manager for a biopharmaceutical company, Oryzon Genomics, coordinating and supervising the work of 5 to 8 specialized technicians. Following this early exposure to industry, I investigated the contribution of liver stem cells to liver regeneration and cancer for my PhD research. The overall goal of my current postdoc research is the preclinical development of an AAV-based gene therapy to cure liver fibrosis and cirrhosis.
