I performed my master and PhD (University of Granada) studying the protective role of melatonin on mitochondrial function in sepsis, and aging. During this time, I collaborated in side projects evaluating the effects of melatonin treatment in other pathologies e.g. Parkinson disease and mucositis. My main focus was bioenergetics, becoming specialist in high-resolution respirometry. I performed a secondment in Innsbruck under the supervision of Prof. Gnaiger. After I finished my PhD, Prof. Gnaiger offered me the opportunity to work in his company, and after approximately 1 year I became Chief Scientific Officer (2016-2022) at his company (Oroboros Instruments). During this time, I focused in research& development on the mitochondrial field, participating in several national and international projects, conferences, teaching mitochondrial physiology in workshops and training schools.
