Mian Nabeel Anwar

With years of experience managing and supervising various research labs, I bring strong communication skills, self-motivation, and a passion for teaching the wonders of molecular microbiology. As a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Alberta, I discovered biomarkers to detect antimicrobial resistance genes and mastered multi-omics approaches to study microbial interactions. I also mentored graduate and post-graduate students in their research interests, all while teaching undergraduate students about microbial evolution and diversity.
Prior to my work at the University of Alberta, I led a clinical team at MQ Scientific Corporation, developing and commercializing new products for molecular diagnostics, biomarkers discovery, pathogen detection, and water testing. As a scientific consultant and biologist, I advised on foodborne pathogens and diseases, raised scientific awareness of fast-spreading microbial diseases, and collaborated with external partners from the industrial and academic sectors.
Certified in biosafety concepts, standard operating procedures, and environmental cleaning and disinfection, I bring a wealth of knowledge to my mentor-coaching program. My diverse background and formal education allow me to offer advanced scientific ideas and strategies while promoting strong interdepartmental and intradepartmental relationships to enhance research understanding and secure funding opportunities.
