Profile Information

First name Karthik
Last name Arumugam
I have professional experience in:

Biotech, Genomics, Therapeutics

Help us confirm that you're an expert

I am a postdoctoral research fellow at the Centre for Genomic Regulation. My research is focused on studying the function of key genes I discovered in human blood (hematopoietic) stem cells. As a part of this study, we are also attempting to convert blood cells into blood stem cells. In the current research project, I have worked extensively with large RNA sequencing datasets, in a long-standing collaboration with systems biology experts at the Columbia University in New York. The discoveries from our current research work could have potential implications in cell and gene therapy. I have been able to take advantage of my research background to study the biotech/pharma companies in the human hematopoietic stem cell gene therapy market.

In my PhD, I discovered the signaling mechanism of a stem cell renewal protein using several biochemical techniques including mass spectrometry. I also helped generate customized antibodies to detect specific modified forms of the protein. My efforts led to the further discovery of the role of this protein in cancer cell proliferation.

I believe I have the diverse scientific expertise in the field of stem cell biology, molecular biology and biochemistry, to be a member of the Bioexpert Network. It would be a privilege to be a part of this network and provide recommendations for the upcoming companies and also get interesting insights into the pharma/biotech sector in Spain..
