PhD in Biology (Genetics) 1996.
Enrolled in the resident program by Johns Hopkins University, Department of Cardiology 1996/2000. Specialty: Viral myocarditis.
Researcher Ramón y Cajal, first call 2002/2006 (ranking: 8), accredited with
I3 at the National Centre for Cardiovascular Research (CNIC). Head of Laboratory
CNIC (2006-2012). Associate Professor, Department of Physiology, University of Alcalá
2010-2012. Associate Professor, Faculty of Medicine, Universidad Francisco de Vitoria
2012-2014. Full time Professor, School of Medicine University Francisco de Vitoria since 2014. Subjects: Cardiovascular disease and Physiology.
Chair of Cardiovascular Research Unit UFV/Cardiology Service of the Hospital Ramón y Cajal(IRYCIS) 2014-present.
Principal investigator of 9 national and international projects,
author of over 60 articles on applied research in cardiovascular disease, 1
patent granted in Europe and the USA. Index H: 32. Cited: 3025 times. Panel member
of national and international experts in the evaluation of projects in the
clinical and translational cardiovascular research. Associate editor of specific journals of the cardiovascular area. Director of 6 doctoral theses, final papers and dissertations
of master’s degree.
The research I lead is focused on finding molecular targets with
diagnostic and/or therapeutic utility with which to act in the treatment of the coronary syndrome acute, cardiac remodeling, heart failure, atherosclerosis or aortic aneurysms. We study the factors that trigger the inflammatory response and the degradation of extracellular matrix components in the inflammatory context, analyzing the role than vasoactive factors, especially nitric oxide and the enzymes involved ,play through the regulation of the expression and activity of enzymes that degrade
wall components. Since 2012, and thanks to the partnerships with laboratories
experts in the area of non-invasive molecular imaging, one of the most important lines is the evaluation of non-invasive molecular imaging by nuclear magnetic resonance, to carry out not only the visualization of single molecules, but also for the use of nanotechnologyi for teranostic purposes. We are currently carrying out the applicability of our findings in international cooperation projects.
Member of the panel of Experts in biomedicine of Agencia Estatal de Investigación (Former ANEP). Member of ISCIII panel of experts in Cardiovascular Research.
