With Biorelate I lead the business development and project management of drug repurposing projects, deployment of our natural language processing technology into R&D, and the identification of client needs to influence our AI, UI, and UX roadmap.

I was director of informatics and information science in AstraZeneca’s global information practice from 2013 to June 2017. In this role, I led strategic and innovation projects including: defining and embedding methods and services for quantitative evidence curation for clinical trial design; streamlining processes for data sharing and governance in collaborations; applying search technologies to clinical metadata profiling for big data research.

From 2008 to 2013 I was clinical information science director for AstraZeneca’s oncology clinical discovery team. Here I led the biometrics and informatics contributions for candidate drug nominations into development. I led the team in implementing processes for the efficient transition of experimental biomarker data from bench to clinic. I pioneered the systematic use of competitive intelligence (CI) in the design of differentiated study programmes.

From 2005 to 2008 I was clinical information science director for AstraZeneca’s small molecule early oncology team where I led its biometrics & informatics team in multiple investigational new drug (IND) projects. My insight into regulatory requirements, programme objectives, and data needs led to focused study designs, efficient data standard, and effective processes for rapid reporting and analysis with data integrity.

From 1998 to 2005 I worked on a number of new drug application (NDA) programmes in roles of increasing seniority in the field of programming and clinical trial informatics. I introduced text mining methods to the analysis of free text collected during clinical trials. I consulted on the assessment and implementation of web based data capture (WBDC) systems, translational data sharing, and data privacy and governance for business transformation projects at AstraZeneca.

Before 1998 I worked as a radiographer in private and public healthcare in the UK and Europe. I gained experience in magnetic resonance imaging, trauma radiography, lithotripsy, and radionuclide imaging.
